JUNCTION SM

The explosive live/dj combo composed by Dandy Jack’s sophisticated rhythms & sounds and Sonja Moonear’s fine records selection.

SONJA MOONEAR, creative and talented dj from the swiss mountains, and DANDY JACK, live musician well-known for his productions as well as his amazing live performances, are the two ingredients of the explosive duo JUNCTION SM.

It is all about a perfect mixture of dandy jack’s live improvisation and sonja moonear’s record selection. Jack’s sets are routed through 2 channels of sonja’s dj mixer in order to let her control the whole given sound. She can use his sounds as an additional source to her records, but also filter, cut or edit it with several effects. She pitches her records to Dandy’s live set.

Sometimes Sonja mixes entire records over his sets, or sometimes she only adds a hihat, a bassdrum or a simple melody. It can also happen that Dandy Jack improvises solos or additional rhythm patterns on top of Sonja’s mixes that increase breaks efficiency. The magical thing is that everything is directly connected to the crowd. Rises and slopes are modulated according to the audience’s motivation.

Depending on the development of the night, Dandy Jack can reload new sets while Sonja is taking over the dancefloor, or she slows down her input and lets Jack perform solo. The link between both of them and the public is the oxygen of their performance. Out of this chemistry comes a wonderful tension that drives the night on till the early hours.

Both artists’ inputs are generating such a generous and varied flow that it seems like a perpetual live production. You will never recognize any pieces, or have any repetition between the sets. The frontier between live sets and records just vanishes. The audience gets lost in trying to know who does what and it’s more fun for everybody.

Who’s the Dandy?

Martin Schopf, alias Dandy Jack, is renowned as much as for his musical productions as for his organisation work in the electronic music movement.

As a musician he released many individual projects (such as Dandy Jack and the Cosmic Trousers in 1997, Dandy Jack and the Plastic Woman in 1998 - both on Rather Interesting - or Dandy Jack and the Latin Lava in 2001 on Perlon).

On the other side, Schopf has developed a wide range of musical styles through his career, proof of his genious passion for electronic sounds. Different projects with other artists came to birth: Gon together with Atom Heart, Amp with Peter Namlook, Sieg über die Sonne with Pink Elln, Gonzalo Martinez with Jorge Gonzalez, and Ric y Martin with Ricardo Villalobos, CARABINA 30:30 with Luciano or at present Junction SM with Sonja Moonear.

Dandy Jack is maybe better known for his incredible energetic live appearances, shaking crowds all around and turning audiences into a non-stop atmospherical body wave. Together with other artists (like for the memorable Narod Niki 1st public concert at Mutek 2003) or alone, in small clubs or bigger events, the german-latin effect has nothing to prove, just power to give.
