Born in Hagen, now living in Dortmund, had his first experience with Techno at the dawn of the nineties. After coming under the power of House and Techno Music, Michael discovered quickly that he too could DJ and began buying records regulary. Opportunity presented itself to Michael at the Dortmund Record Store "Channel Jam". Since he was always there buying records, he was offered the position of record-dealer, which he accepted. This position brought him many contacts to the Techno-Scene and made it possible for him to get gigs all over North-Rhein-Westfalen.
As part of his job at the record store, Michael traveled weekly to Frankfurt to buy new releases from large wholesale buiseness. It was via these trips to Frankfurt, that he first came into contact with Under Cover Music Group. UCMG would eventually then publish his first releases. From these early works Michael attracted the attention of UCMG and in April of 1999 he was hired by UCMG as A&R for Fine Audio and Touch Tone Records.
The leadership of Under Cover wanted to breathe new life into Fine Audio, after the departure of Chris Liebing, and they found the correct man for the job in Michael Burkat. His first project under the Audio label was a product of cooperation with Marco Lenzi from the London-based label Molecular Records. Shortly thereafter followed his first solo-release on Audio 022.
In August of 1999 Michael founded the Compressed Label, which already has 11 releases to ist credit. Yet another Label, called tst,
came into being under Michael in January of 2000. The first releases from this young label immediately grabbed the attention of the electronic music scene.
As a DJ, Michael has traveled throughout all of Germany and his sets, like his productions are compositions of clearly structured sounds which never bored those Dancefloor.
