Born in Paris in the mid-1970s, Jonathan Thomas, alias John Thomas, developed a taste for playing with decks at the age of 14, with sets colored with funk and soul. In 1991, Laurent Garnier introduced him to the original Detroit sound, conveyed by Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins. Since then, he has conquered the French stage with his powerful, minimalist performance.
But John did not stop there. In 1996, he created his own studio and started to compose. In January 1997, he released his first maxis with French-label Logistic Records, then based in Montpellier, and became the Label spearhead.
Besides his performances as a DJ with three decks, John Thomas pushes beyond musical normas, into acoustic and experimental diversity, with radical sounds in the 'Static Drum' project (with Olivier Micheli) and a streamlined and playful funk with Cabanne.
2001 is a milestone for John: a mix CD, Caught in the Act, then a first album: Blackstage, scheduled for the fall, and a monthly residency at Rex
