star warz XII 02-04-2005

Star Warz remains thé leading Drum and Bass event in Belgium. This was proven once more on the last edition which was sold out again before 12 o'clock.

Star Warz always unites the biggest international names ( Goldie, Grooverider, Ed Rush, Marcus Intalex, Doc Scott, Andy C and many more) with the most talented newcomers ( Matrix, Simon Bassline Smith, Silver, Bailey, Concord Dawn, … ) and big names and young talents from Belgium. As such Star Warz represents all styles and evolutions within the scene and gives their public a broad look into the Drum and Bass spectrum.

Star Warz, wants to keep innovating - not only as a concept but also as a musical genre. Because what makes the parties such a success is the crowd obviously: an open-minded, up-for-it public that admires Drum and Bass, wants to be surprised and that creates that special atmosphere that everybody’s raving about !

This time they have chosen A Sides from Eastside Recordings and Metalheadz, amongst others because this guy has over 250 releases to his name. He brings along MC Fats who also collaborated on his album Follow the Groove and who is one of his favorite MC's.

Second guest is Dom who has produced for all the most prolific labels around as No-U-Turn, Moving Shadow, 31 Recordings, Prototype, … you name them. He's also just started his own Dom & Roland Productions, a label to definitely watch out for in the future! His favorite MC is MC Verse who also just started his own label Crunch.

And with MC Jay from Holland joining our residents, Millennium Kru, the crowd will definitely be heated up by such a strong MC-force, next to groundbreaking dj's.

Dom & Roland + Mc Verse
(Moving Shadow - Renegade Hardware /UK)

Whilst working as bar-manager, Dom was able to scrape enough money together to purchase a Roland 760, and with this began to write and produce tracks. As he finished each tune he would take it into No U-Turn’s studio to do the final mixdown. While there, Nico (No U-Turn’s label boss) saw Dom’s potential and started a new label called Saigon. SAG01 ‘Wax Rhythmical’, SAG02 ‘The Bells’ & SAG03 ‘The Definition E.P’ followed.

On the strength of this early success, he began writing more tracks, this time for Moving Shadow. Several releases followed (‘Cutting Edge’ SH75, ‘The Planets’ SH81, ‘Interstellar Jazz’ SH89 and ‘The Storm’ SH97) and Dom was chosen to collaborate on Moving Shadow’s 100th release, ‘Distorted Dreams’ (SH100) along with Rob Playford, and Goldie. In these early evolutionary years Dom also had high profile releases on Doc Scott’ s ’31 Recordings’ imprint and Grooverider’s ‘Prototype’ label.

Autumn 1998 saw the long awaited release of Dom’s first album, ‘Industry’ - to unanimous public and critical acclaim. Drawing on his wide background of musical influences, Dom’s album presented the listener with a variety of textures and styles fused together with his unique style of hard, dark sounds.

Since then Dom has kept up the pressure with a string of superb releases. ‘Parasite’ (SH131), ‘Killa Bullet’ (SH135) and the reworking of ‘Kaotic Kemistry’ under the guise Known Unknown has cemented his reputation as one of the UK’s most talented producers. However, it was the inclusion of Dom’s ‘Terrorist’ limited edition remix on the Killa Bites (ASH25) trilogy that really blew the public away. After this Dom released the ‘MSX’ EP ‘Midnight Club’ (MSXEP8) including tracks from the Playstation 2 game of the same name, among these the now famous ‘Imagination’ which has since had the remix treatment from Kemal and Rob Data.

For Dom’s next EP, he paired up with Keaton from Usual Suspects. The result of this collaboration was ‘Archaeon’ and ‘Twisted City’ combined with Dom’s tracks ‘Sandgun’ and ‘The Voyage’. Kemal featured again on Dom’s second album, on the track ‘Moulin Rouge’, along with Keaton providing insight on ‘Mordor’, another two highly praised tracks. As well as a couple of new solo tracks, the main purpose of this album was to provide a mixed back catalogue of some of Dom’s favorite production moments of previous years.

Dom continues to DJ regularly all over the world. The single ‘Dance All Night’ was release in May 2004 after being hammered on dubplate. His third (and quite possibly best) album ‘Chronology’ has been released on Moving Shadow on June 21, 2004. He extensively toured in the USA, Europe, Asia & Australia/New Zealand throughout 2004 to promote the album release.

Dom is currently preparing the launch of his own label ‘Dom & Roland Productions’. The first release has been done with the violence recordings cru and features Dom and Gridlok’s ‘moodswings’, and ‘chaos theory’ by Dom and Hive and should be in the shops in Spring 2005. There will be a launch tour to promote this very promising new imprint. Also out in early 2005 will be Dom’s massive remix of Hive’s smasher ‘Neo’.

MC Verse joins a select crop of owners, an MC with a label as he works towards the first Crunch release. In between touring and travelling, Verse has found sufficient studio time to write alongside DKay, BCUK, Keaton, Bad Company and join the Fifth Element crew deep with Loxy & Ink. Postponed due to distribution issues that collective are far from buried we’re assured. Verse releases have rounded out across Renegade Hardware and Outbreak; he duly returns to productions for his personal ends, Crunch Recs.

Again calling on the wizadry of DKay, 'Off The Rails / Azure' drops in the New Year.
Meeting DKay after embarking on numerous trips across to Austria MCing, the two became close friends and Verse recognizes the lessons the Vienna virtuoso has taught him. The format for Crunch is to be rigid; one side collaborative effort, one side solo chunky, musical Verse beats. 'Off The Rails / Azure' drops late in January and work is already underway to finalize Keaton's appearance, 'White Crow b/w Journeys Through Haze' ['Sort of a weed tune'] for end of February and a D-Bridge performance, 'Burning Edge' to follow that.
